HELLO!

I’m Amber, the bleach-eyebrowed face behind BAMBER. I work in the Winchmore Hill shop + studio running all our pottery workshops, trying my best to keep the plants alive, making lots of pots and knitting + sewing my own clothes !

I love leaves and clouds and birds, my favourite colours are green, orange, purple and pink and I love making useful and silly things and painting them with fun colours and pictures.

My favourite part of making pots is signing my name and drawing pictures on the bottoms :-)

The BAMBER shop + studio opened on the 30th of November 2022, after I had been making pots from the shed at my childhood home for a few years, selling things I'd been making online and working part-time alongside.

The shed was freezing in winter and like an oven as soon as the sun came out, but I loved spending all day in there making pots and lamps and tiny sculptures. Me + my cat would share a tiny chair while I was trimming mugs on the kick-wheel or pinching pots at the table, and I would run the kiln every few weeks after I'd built up enough of a collection to fill up all the shelves for a firing.

Lots of the things I like to make are themed around bugs or flowers, and I love to incorporate the natural colour of the terracotta clay in the glazing process. Sometimes using wax to paint patterns on the pots, but more often keeping the pots unglazed and using different coloured glazes to paint pictures with.

I live on a canal boat on the River Lea and all the birds, trees, plants and clouds provide an ever-changing inspiration for ideas to explore. Right now as I'm writing this I am watching bees climb in and out of the flowers outside my window and listening to all the birds chatting in the trees and the water. I love being surrounded by so much life and so many beautiful things ! And my aim is for the things I make to be a continuation of that.

I have now moved my work-space to the studio attached to the shop in Winchmore Hill, where I make and display my own work along with lots of other independent makers from around the UK. To see our list of current makers you can head to the studio page, linked below !
